Nobel prize winning economist Joseph Stieglitz writes about the moral challenge to capitalism. He suggests we choose to prioritize generative over exploitative capitalism if we want to focus on the common good. It seems a helpful as guidance for public health priorities to research and compare generative forces or actions and mitigative forces or actions that impact public health.
A thoughtful essay indeed. For one to feel at peace about health, one must feel that the provider/system truly cares for you, has your best interests at heart and will go beyond the standard of care to find bespoke solutions to your unique situation. The consumer of health will also appreciate and interpret the ‘positive intent’ based on having timely access and impact to her pocket book. Good care needs to be attainable and affordable. It’s so much more that a tag line that health systems often tout; it’s about action and practical applications.
Sandro, thank you as always for your thoughtful contributions.
