Covid 19 pandemic has taught us all a tough lesson to view and converse with health of human beings and the way health care sector needs to be aligned with the standard of living across countries and continents in the pursuit of a more focused system of structured policies to extend Medicare universally.

40% of covid deaths were in people with diabetes. But during the pandemic when deaths mounted we heard over and over again it was the very old, and those who did not care for their own health. Looking at the determinants of diabetes, we can see obviously that many of them are the same social determinants Sandro has listed. In addition, we have the additional problem of blaming people with diabetes for their conditions, as if one would choose to be overweight/obese and have an elevated blood glucose. The health of the population needs to go beyond public health expenditures and look at the food supply - what we subsidize and what we don't subsidize, transportation, and making communities livable.
