Thanks again for an elegantly writted essay on bureaucracy. You might have mentioned the original Weberian concept from which we have perhaps strayed. I have always contended that it is not bureaucracy that fails us, but it is rather the "bureaupathology" that has corrupted bureaucracy. With regard to Covid, you might have mentioned the initial success of bureaucracy in rolling out the vaccine, reaching level of 1 million doses daily. But not even perfect bureaucracy can withstand the combined efforts of malicious adversaries and the power of partisan politics. Long live bureaucracies in public health!
