Good to see the Qs raised in this post along with exploring risk perceptions in fearful responses. Would be interesting to see these thoughts tied further to cost-benefit decision making and how trust/distrust in authorities/leaders figures into the equation.

Fluid writing with some slippery assumptions--like facts supporting resumption if school sports which has in fact led to spreading infection. Likely sports similar to school openings, the increase in infection came in socializing alongside the sport as the infection among school children is not in the classroom but in the relaxed socializing alongside the schooling.

More importantly, I felt the last paragraph on compassion was the most meaningful issue and might better have been the opening of the essay and the focus for the context into which the elementckf fear can be best understood and managed.
